The western face of the Rincon Mountains on the far east side of Tucson, Arizona is an everyday sight seen by the city’s inhabitants. The eastern face of the mountains is far less familiar, however, and presents a different aspect of this sky-island range. This view from “around the back” is from a vantage point above the tree-lined course of Ash Creek.
This series of falls in Paige Canyon on the eastern side of the Rincon Mountains stair steps over a series of rock terraces on its way to the valley below. The location is in extreme eastern Pima County, Arizona, along the road to Happy Valley. The upper reaches of the falls can be glimpsed from the road, but in order to appreciate the entirety of the falls, a short but steep hike is necessary.
